Panglao kids lend face to
PH energy IEC campaign
TAGBILARAN CITY, August 26, (PIA) --Two Panglao kids lend the face to the country's video-documentary campaign for consumers and stakeholders to be informed, to be empowered and to choose for themselves the most convenient, affordable and reliable power source as the country draws its energy roadmap.
Jane Heberly Anne Bompat and Christopher Abellana, both Grade VI pupils of Lourdes Elementary School topbill the Department of Energy's (DOE) E-Power Mo Campaign, in the government's bid to popularize the energy chain to the consuming sector through a video documentary called "Lamp of Dreams."
Along with Bompat and Abellana are Zione Peter Pañe and Jane Honeylee Mijares, both grade V pupils of the same school.
Done at a time when Bohol had a bout of power outages as an earthquake hit Leyte and disrupted the island's power source, the kids shared how tough it was studying.
"It is hard to study using candles because it flickers with the wind," said 11 year old Christopher Abellana, in the documentary that would also be DOE's campaign video to international venues.
"A kerosene lamp is not as bright, it is hard to read in low light, it can ruin our eyes," Bompat who was shown studying in a bamboo bed in the small family sala shared.
"If I can, my request to the President is to give us light that does not need to be plugged from expensive power sources," Bompat continues.
The video documentary campaign also came at a time when the DOE hosts in Panglao the gathering of 34 country Asian energy bloc which had the Asian Cooperation Dialog here.
The video documentary campaign also aims to empower consumers through a wide range of options in utilizing conventional, renewable and alternative energy sources, advanced DOE Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella, documentary executive producer.
In Panglao, the DOE along with Liter of Light through its founder Illiac Diaz taught 34 elementary kids the process of assembling a 1 watt solar powered lamp, which they were to hand to ACD delegates.
The handing off ceremony is symbolic of the need for the world to rethink on the renewable sources of energy, which also includes geothermal and which the Philippines comes as a pioneering developer, Energy Development Corporation Corporate Social Responsibility Division Head Engr Edwin Magallanes said.
This too as the country drafts its energy roadmap which would be the main framework upon which the development of the country's industrial revolution would rely, according to Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
The energy secretary admits the crucial need for the government to send across the message of the energy sector to the energy chain: be informed of the wealth of energy resources available to Filipinos to be globally competitive.
But while building on the reserve energy resources, e Power Mo campaign also picks on educating consumers about safety sand energy saving measures through energy efficiency, the epower mo campaign which uses Panglao kids and their parents stresses.
The campaign also hits on the delivery of reliable, quality and affordable energy and its services.
We wish there would be more support to the country's alternative and renewable energy development as the more sustainable source of energy, a Panglao parent Lourdes Cablitas also hoped. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
