September opens with
holiday for Eid'l Adha
TAGBILARAN CITY, August 29, 2017 (PIA) --September rolls in with a long holiday, one that comes after two long holidays in August.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday August 29 signed Proclamation 297 declaring Friday, September 1 as a regular holiday throughout the country.
This is in observance of the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice or Eid'l Adha.
It may be recalled that the country paused August 21 to commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day and August 28 for the National Heroes Day.
Both holidays fell on a Monday, that the country had two Mondays without work, ending the 3 day long week-end.
Republic Act No. 9849 has provided for the celebration of the Eid'l Adha as a regular holiday, but owing to the lunar Islamic calendar, the observance of the holiday moves as the date of the religious commemoration varies in every lunar year.
This year, pursuant to the final declaration of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended for the September 1 as the day corresponding to the observance of the Eid'l Adha.
In Bohol, long holidays haven been occasions for Boholanos to tour around the island and discover and test new tourism products.
Up for testing are the activities along the areas supported by Bol-anong Kabilin, Atong Bahandi in Tagbilaran City and in the towns of Cortes, Balilihan, Catigbian, Maribojoc, Antequera, Loon and Baclayon.
According to BOKAG convenor Lutgardo Labad, the new tour products highlight Bohol's history and would be an ideal cultural immersion for Boholanos who would want to feely how it was in the American period.
For tour arrangements, the Office of the Provincial Tourism Office would be able to help, Labad said. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
