33 student writers complete
Dimiao journalism workshop
DIMIAO, Bohol, November 29 (PIA)—Thirty three student writers from three secondary and an elementary school here completed the two-day ASEAN Journalism Training workshop set November 28-29 at the Dimiao Central Elementary School Conference Hall.
Dimiao town information officer Virgilio Laguitao said they availed of the free ASEAN workshops to help prepare their student writers respond to the demands of responsible journalism especially in the times of fake news and to better allow students to participate in the social processes.
The Local Government Unit of Dimiao under Mayor Danilo Guevancan and Vice Mayor Aniceta Ucang and local officials through the Information Office organized the writing workshop for the students to also increase the student’s journalism capabilities especially when they embark on the regional secondary schools press conference this December.
Students from Saint Nicholas Academy, Dimiao National High School, Canhayupon National High School and Dimiao Central Elementary School joined the workshop which the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) conducted.
The workshop is part of the measures of the Presidential Communications and Operations Office through the PIA, to further popularize the Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on its golden founding anniversary this year.
The free workshop, which uses the ASEAN in its content, tackles Campus Paper organization and staffing, News writing, Feature Writing, Copy reading and Headline Writing, Junior Broadcasting and writing for Broadcast, Photo Journalism and Editorial Cartooning.
The PIA also intends to strengthen the network of information advocates from the schools to expand the information dissemination capability of the community and present a better alternative to limited information source which can now be accessed by anyone with the capacity to share responsible information.
