Agri Chief turn-overs P450-M worth
of agri & fishery projects in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, March 16 (PIA)--The Department of Agriculture Chief on Thursday distributed certificates of commitments of agriculture and fishery projects worth P 450 million for implementation this year.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that these projects are funded under the 2018 budget of DA.

The secretary said that DA will use the Rice Processing Center (RPC) in Pilar to procure and distribute locally-produced rice, while the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will provide the necessary post-harvest for cold storage facility.

Piñol, along with Cabinet Sec. Leoncio Evasco, Jr., graced the one-day Incident Command System - Executive Course (ICS-EC) for Bohol mayors hosted by the Provincial Government of Bohol on Thursday held at the Bohol Tropics Resort in Tagbilaran City.

The agriculture secretary met and greeted the Bohol mayors and informed them of his department’s major plans and projects for the province.

He assured everyone that the province's first-ever huge dairy program could never fail and its dairy project will push through.

The secretary however said that due to the foot and mouth disease (FMD) affecting the Girolando cattle breed in Brazil, Bohol will import similar breed from Mexico.

"So don't be surprised if one day soon, you will see Bohol milk displayed in big supermarkets, Piñol declared.

Gov. Edgar Chatto on his part said he is quite confident that these projects would undoubtedly be fruitful, which would bring Bohol to greater heights of success.

Meanwhile, the DA secretary said he will sail to Bohol the new Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Francisco Dagohoy on June 4, the commemoration of the birth of the Boholano hero in whose memory the ship is named.

The Dagohoy ship and BRP Lapulapu are new multi-mission offshore vessels and marine protection assets of the BFAR. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)
