Duque leads groundbreaking 
of P90-M Bohol Youth Home 

TAGBILARAN CITY, April 11 (PIA)--Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III on Tuesday led the capsule laying and groundbreaking rites of the soon-to-rise Bohol Youth Home, a facility for underage delinquents, at the wellness and health complex in Cortes town. 

The P90-million Bohol Youth Home will be constructed on a 1-hectare land owned by the provincial government in Barangay Malayo Norte in Cortes which is also the site of other proposed healthcare infrastructures. 

“This worthy project of the provincial government of Bohol, really aligned the wellness and objective of the DOH,” Duque said. 

Gov. Edgar Chatto, Cong. Rene Relampagos, Cortes Mayor Lynn Iven Lim, Cortes Vice Mayor Leo Pabotoy and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 Director Evelyn Macapobre assisted the health secretary during the capsule laying and groundbreaking rites. 

The Bohol Youth Home project will be funded by the Provincial Government of Bohol, DSWD and the DOH. 

The Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) annex as well as the rehab center will also be located in this complex. 

Duque also inspected the proposed site for the multi-million GCGMH hospital annex. 

The health secretary arrived at 10 a.m. on Tuesday to keynote the 16th Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Summit attended by 1,500 BNS from the 1,109 barangays of the province at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City. 

Duque recognized the work of BNS and also vowed continued support to the National Nutrition Council (NNC), as well as the DOH programs such as growth assessment of children, prenatal and antenatal programs for mothers, and nutrition education and food demonstration, and among others. 

Bohol is among the priority provinces under the Philippine Nutrition Action Plan.

The summit mainly discussed on the importance of the barangay nutrition scholars in the quest of the national government to fight malnutrition and elevate the health status of our country. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol).
