5 towns get new P7M
Fire stations from BFP
TAGBILARAN CITY, June 2 (PIA)—Five Bohol towns get an upgrade in public safety when the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) gives a total of P35 million this year to fund for the construction of new fire stations.
The move increases the capacities of Bohol fire fighters by cutting to only five towns without fire stations now, according to Fire Senior Inspector Raul Bustaliño.
Baring his report during the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council meeting jointly at the Governor’s Mansion, FSInsp. Bustaliño added P7M is allocated for each standard designed fire stations in the five towns.
BFP named these towns as Cortes, Carlos P. Garcia, Pilar, Dauis and Valencia.
These towns were also those who have succeeded in securing for themselves fire trucks, either sourced from local funds or from donations.
Before this development, BFP said only 38 towns have their own fire stations.
Bohol has 47 towns and one city.
But even then, the BFP through FSupt. Sheila Andrade revealed, there are existing fire stations put up by local government units in Bohol that need to be helped.
In her first round of visits, FSupt Andrade showed members of the PPOC that some stations are just lean-to sheds, of abandoned spaces in town buildings that could only accommodate the fire-truck garage while fire personnel have to make do with cramped barracks.
At this development too, the BFP said the new fire-stations would be in conformity with the standard designs that the BFP prescribes for their base.
Aside from an ample space for fire-truck garage, the new station would also have sleeping quarters for their fire fighters and office spaces from where fire related permits can be had.
BFP also reminded towns which have no fire stations yet to execute a deed of donation for a lot upon which the BFP can erect a fire station.
These donations that need to be named for the BFP, increases the town’s chances to be given the funds for the construction, while the national government also puts up a permanent fire team, BFP said. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
