Chatto calls Boholanos to unite,
Keep collective vision for Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, June 12 (PIA)—Stay united with a common collective vision for Bohol.

This fairly sums up the 120th Philippine Independence Day message which Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto delivered before a crowd of government, and private sector representatives including church officials gathered in front of a makeshift stage constructed in front of the old Provincial Capitol June 12.

Chatto, who, over the years have stressed that Boholanos may have attained some degree of freedom, the freedom from poverty is still a long struggle, said the struggle to fight for genuine freedom continues.

He cited that that poverty has always been keeping people’s freedom from unimpeded movement and the option for better lives.

The governor, who compared the country with America in terms of its attaining independence said, although the Philippines is a younger nation in terms of freedom from foreign domination, Filipinos still need to continue the fight for genuine freedom.

“What we have gained, we continue to protect, what we need to achieve, we need to continue the struggle,” he remarked.

Also at the commemorative program was Tagbilaran City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso.

In his opening message, the City Vice Mayor called for governments to tap the dynamism of the youth as they can be the change movers that ensure the continuity of the work which our forefathers have started.

This as he stressed that the struggle opening the doors for freedom and endless possibility must continue in line with the theme “Kalayaaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.”

At this, Chatto, who has been acclaimed among Bohol’s best young leaders, said everyone can contribute our share to continue the work, as the challenges also continue to double.

But amidst every challenge that Bohol needs to surmount, the governor had one advice: Pray not to make the mountains smaller, but rather that we may have the strength to climb them.

The challenge and fight for genuine freedom continues, but as long as we continue to stay united, and have a common collective vision for Bohol, the task may not be as daunting, the governor remarked. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
