TAPP opens anew for July 21
“Alicia Trail Run 2018 Series”

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, July 10 (PIA)—The heat of the race would be at Binabaje, but be forewarned: there is nothing girlish about it.

Alicia town leaders again cast the dare to the region’s trail runners: Bohol’s toughest yet most gorgeous trails of The Alicia Panoramic Park (TAPP) open again this month, for the Alicia Trail Run 2018 series, July 21.

Open to male or female trail runners are race distances: 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 5 kilometers, according to Alicia Tourism Officer Godelia Lumugdang.

Already getting notoriously called the brutally beautiful trails of Bohol, TAPP, opened its inaugural trail run last February and had a couple of a hundred runners negotiating its single trails that go from pleasurably invigorating to strenuously painful, if not for the exhillirating view.

The ridges of the series of gorgeous cogon carpeted rolling hills that display the gradients of green and yellow host the single trails that carry the runners to shift to anything in their running arsenal, to get past seemingly great trails to dizzying heights and go through the pain of conquering themselves.

"It is not all running the ridges," Lumugdang, who has also led in organizing the first TAPP Trail Run in February defensively said.

“In the five kilometer race, there is about 2 kilometers of highway and another over 2 kilometers of trails in the hills of Barangay Progreso,” she said as matter-of-fact.

She added, the 10 kilometer race would have about 5 kilometers of dirt barangay roads and another 5 kilometers of single trails winding up and down the Binabaje Hills, and back to the starting line.

For the 21 kilometers race, she said there is an easy 1.5 kilometers of highway, about 2 kilometers of dirt barangay roads and the rest…., she trailed off, a hint of smile in her voice.

More than 300 trail runners joining the February TAPP Trail Run would know the brutally beautiful trail and the satisfaction one gets after conquering Bohol’s toughest trail run challenge.

When the February trail run had the best of the region completing the 21 kilometers in a little over two hours, Alicia Trail Series 2018 organizers peg the 21K cut-off time at 7 hours; 10K at 4.5 hours and 5K at 2.5 hours to be officially hailed as finishers.

Presented as the LGU share in the preparations for the parochial fiesta of Saints Anne and Joachim which is set July 25-26, the Alicia Trail Run 2018 Series is another of the town’s attempt to creatively present the panoramic view of Alicia and its scenic view of the nearby towns of Ubay, Mabini, Candijay from up the highest peak in the area.

Now fast becoming a tourist trekking destination, the peak of TAPP has already an established camp site, and the trekkers are afforded the endless view of rolling hills and distant plains which turn to green and yellow red orange gradient during sunrise or sunset.

On race day, 21K runners would be let-off from the Alicia Municipal hall grounds at 4:30 AM, and runners must be properly hydrated, carry enough water provisions, and a head lamp as they could be hitting the single trails at dawn, she suggested.

Organizers also want every runner to be halfway at least by 10, when the day’s heat could soar to unbearable heights.

10K runner would be starting off from the starting line an hour later, race marshals and organizers also make sure runners are sufficiently hydrated and trained, despite designated water stations along the route.

By 6:00 AM, the 5 K runners would be let-off.

SCRAMBLING TO THE SUMMIT. Trail runners joining the February 21 Kilometer run said this was by far the most painful and yet the most rewarding run, with the splendid panorama and gorgeous single trails. This is the same trail where the Alicia Trail Run 2018 Series takes this July 21. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
