MTRCB holds “Matalinong Panonood” caravan in 

Bohol; urges responsible viewing among students 

TAGBILARAN CITY, Nov. 12 (PIA)--The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) recently visited Bohol and conducted the “Para sa Matalino at Responsableng Panonood ng Pamilyang Pilipino” caravan at Holy Name University, this city. 

With the aim to promote critical viewership among the youth, MTRCB gathers over 100 students on November 8, 2018 in an orientation on its role and function in ensuring shows and programs aired on television and theaters are classified and rated well. 

The “Matalinong Panonood” caravan in Bohol was led by the “Queen of Visayan Movie” and award-winning actress Gloria Sevilla together with other MTRCB board members including Boholano singer-songwriter Luke Mejares, Indie film maker Raymond Aquino, Marco Ho of CNN Philippines’ Bogart the Explorer and actor Johnny Revilla. 

Dr. Rose Maxino-Baseleres, chairperson of the HNU Communication Department said the forum is in line with the two-pronged mandate of the MTRCB – first, to raise public awareness and participation in relation to the Revised Classification Ratings for Television and Films and other relevant issuances and guidelines. Second, to increase media literacy and audience sensitivity, most especially with regards to sectors most vulnerable to media. 

During the forum, Aquino pointed out that the MTRCB’s job in classifying and rating movie and television materials is aimed at protecting the minds of the children. 

Aquino explained that the revised movie ratings are classified into five categories: General Audience (G), Parental Guidance (PG), Restricted – 13 (R-13), Restricted -16 (R-16) ug Restricted – 18 (R-18). 

While for the TV ratings, there are three classifications: General Patronage (G), Parental Guidance (PG) and Strong Parental Guidance (SPG). 

MTRCB emphasized the critical role of parents in monitoring what their children watch on TV and theaters. 

They also encouraged the participants to report movie houses that violates the policy on R-rated films. 

The MTRCB was created by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1986, which was signed on Oct. 5, 1985 and is under the Office of the President of the Philippines. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)
