Total crimes down by 29%

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Jan 14 (PIA) –Bohol saw lesser crimes in 2020 compared to 2019 as police crime statisticians at Camp Francisco Dagohoy in Tagbilaran bookmarked a 29.10 decrease in crime incidence from January to December in the mentioned months.

In a report delivered by Camp Dagohoy for Police Colonel Joselito Clarito, camp Officer Major Norman Nuez talked about the 2,843 crime difference from 2019 to 2020, which comprise the bulk of the crime dip.

From 10,164 total crime incidence in 2019, crimes sagged to 7,321 incidents in 2020, he pointed out.

The same down trend is also reflected in both peace and order and public safety incidents, which contributed to the total decrease.

In Peace and order incidents for example, from 6,453 cases in 2019, it was staved off to 5,023 in 2020, the difference of 1,430 comprises the 23.19% dive in cases that involved violations of the laws that disturb the peace in communities.

For public safety incidents, police statisticians noted an even bigger drop from 3,711 in 2019 to 2,298: the difference of 1,413 making up for the 39.44% decrease in incidents.

As to the index and non-index crimes in the peace and order violations, 2020 marked a huge 54% drop in cases, or from 2,377 in 2019, it dove to 1,028 in 2020.

Even the non-index crime group registered a downtrend, a positive effect of the enhanced police visibility and presence in the streets, and supported by strict implementation of the home quarantine protocols, claimed Major Nuez.

From 4,076 crimes in 2019, it continued a trend down with 3,995 in 2020 for a 3.43% positive accomplishment.

As to crime clearance and crime solution efficiency, Bohol police also scored better in 2020.

When Camp Dagohoy forces cleared 85.15% of its total crimes in 2019, the figure even increased in 2020 with a crime clearance efficiency of 91.14%.

As this went on, even the crime solution efficiency in the organization sored even more with 83.26 in 2020 from 79.46 of the total cases from January to December in 2019.

In the PNP’s 8 focused crimes namely: theft, robbery, physical injuries, rape, murder, motor-napping, homicide and car-napping, the organization gained 20.47% increase in crime clearance efficiency from 66.46 percent in 2019 to 87.93 percent in 2020.

By 2020 also, the local police organization gained 15.85 percent better last year compared to its crime clearance efficiency in 2019.

Camp Dagohoy records as shared by Maj. Nuez showed that the entire provincial police and its municipal police stations as well as it satellite stations posted 72.98% of crimes considered solved in 2020 over 57.15 in 2019.

Police would consider a crime as solved when it has identified the suspect, conducted enough surveillance and gathered enough evidence to stand in court, apprehended and had the suspect in custody and has filed the proper cases in court, while a crime is considered cleared when the police has identified the suspect, gathered enough evidence to support an arrest but has not arrested the suspect for some reasons. BIGGEST HAUL. Police and allied enforcement agencies including the Coast Guard joined forces to mount the biggest interagency cooperation to stop a huge bulk of drugs from getting into the streets. This multi-million haul is by far 2020's biggest, according to Major Nuez. Coordination and cooperation also worked well for Bohol in 2020, when crimes went really down low as Bohol also tries to recover from the pandemic. (PIABohol/foto by PDEA Bohol)

TWO, NO, THREE IN ONE. Enhanced police presence in the streets, as well as manning the quarantine control points have largely contributed to the decrease in crimes, according to Camp Dagohoy.
