PIA Bohol brings BALITAE CO
training for Trinidad writers

TRINIDAD, Bohol Feb 24 (PIA) – The mission of information dissemination and bringing the government closer to the grassroot communities continue even during the pandemic, as the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) brings its capability building training for communicators of the Municipal Government of Trinidad, February 24, 2021.

Still observing physical and social distancing, protected by face masks and shields as well as disinfection stations, the training participants trudged through the whole-day training that included discussions, presentations, writing sessions and critiquing.

“The ultimate goal is to operationalize the municipal publication, one offered in Cebuano, and which would spread the information about local developments and major events of the town,” explains Municipal Administrator and legal consultant Atty Jennie Cabading, during the training preliminaries.

It was no less than Trinidad Mayor Judith Cajes who requested the PIA to give a refresher on the basics of news and feature writing as well as on photo journalism, in a day-long activity at the municipal conference hall.

For the PIA, its module on Building Access to Local information through Actively-engaging Communities (BALITA-E CO) is a fitting training, simplified and perfect for a refresher as well as a preview for those new to the training course.

The local writers, led by Atty Cabading, as well as information officer Jojeline Ruiz-Buendia, and the local creative team joined the training which included writing and editing exercises.

As planned, the local publications would include, aside from the news and features, editorial columns and publication of resolutions, executive orders and ordinances, medical and legal advice, entertainment and lifestyle as well as local advertisements in the future when the paper has established its roots.

We have seen the need to bring medical and legal advice to the grassroots and without the material time to carter to everything, we decided to have it on a publication where people can always cut and clip, so the information can be kept for a longer period of time, Mayor Cajes said.
