Bohol authorities confiscate
P71,000 drugs’ worth daily

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, August 25 (PIA) –Since January to August this year, some P71,404.35 worth of drugs get confiscated every day, and unfortunately, without the authorities saying it, a much bigger bulk gets into the hands and rots the minds of Boholanos.

During the most recent meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), police reports indicate that from January 1 to August 23, Bohol narcotics agents and allied forces tasked in the implementation of the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign have confiscated some 2,478.29 grams of meth-ampithamine hydrochloride (meth) or shabu in Bohol.

The over-all haul would have a Dangerous Drugs Board street value equivalent to P16,862,372.00, according to Police Superintendent Cheryl Boniao, Bohol Provincial Police Office Deputy Operations Chief.

With that figure, in the last 236 days therefore, some 10.501 grams of shabu have been taken off the streets, courtesy of the government authorities implementing the campaign.

At the DDB determined street value of P6,800 per gram, that means, every day and that includes weekends and holidays, authorities have disrupted some operations with 71, 404.00 worth of drugs taken off the streets.

And even as this went on, observers have seen the apparent return of the drug problem, with a new leader in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is not as vocal against drugs as his predecessor.

Bohol authorities at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), in reaction to the report admitted that drug business is tough to solve, considering the huge business involved

PPOC focal person on Ending Local Communists Armed Conflict Romeo Teruel, during the meeting also shot the most important question nobody dared to ask.

“Have we not identified who the big drug lords are? I find it awkward why, today we have not arrested [them]. For the pushers, we can get the mane and it would be easy to neutralize [the big time drug lords]?, Teruel asked.

During the PPOC, Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, in his first mandate as the PPOC Chair has tasked the Special Action Committee (SAC) on Criminality to convene and propose actions to be taken, to dent on the problem anew.

“Your governor is committed to address the drug problem, hopefully, the SAC can give us a plan to take on the problem,” he said.

Aside from the SAC, the governor also demanded the same from the Police, the PDEA and the Department f Interior and Local Government to give out plans to support the Capitol’s anti-drug campaign. (RAHC/PIA-7/Bohol)
