Tubigon: Visayas’ first learning hub
for nutri programs implementation

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)—For continuously owning up the challenge and raising the bar in its commitment to floor malnutrition, Tubigon gets the honor of becoming a Learning Hub for Enhanced and Revitalized Nutrition (LHEARN) in Central Visayas.

No less than National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita Mission, RN and Tubigon Mayor Marlon Amila signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizing Tubigon’s nod to be a peer partner of the Central Visayas local government units seeking for models in implementing their nutrition programs.

The recognition for Tubigon becomes a milestone as the town becomes the first learning hub in the Visayas where LGUS can look at the implemented programs and design their own interventions from there.

“This is part of the LGU mobilization strategy where we implement the peer learning approach where LGUS can learn from each other, Dr. Mission explained, during the post MOA signing press conference at the Tubigon MPDC Conference Hall.

Surging into nutrition program implementation prominence, Tubigon rose to the occasion from the Green Banner for Compliance and consistently maintaining the recognition for three consecutive years, even raising the rating with innovation to be hailed as Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition Awardee (CROWN) then.

With nowhere else to go but up, Tubigon again gunned for the coveted the highest recognition which the NNC confers to Local Government Units, and has since maintained the very challenging parameters, Tubigon Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Joanna Faye Obdulia Reserva shared to the media comprising the Media Information Network for Nutrition (MIND-7) team on Media Caravan to learn first-hand, how LGUS managed to become outstanding nutrition program implementers.

Implementing the program across administrations prove to be a no issue for Tubigon, Reserva, who was appointed to be the program action officer during the incumbency of then mayor Luna Piezas, realized that elections may pit leaders against each other, in Tubigon, after elections, erase na ang politika, [politics is erased] she added.

Now maintaining the Nutrition Honor Awards (NHA), the highest ever awards conferred to LGUS implementing their local programs for nutrition, Tubigon has just elevated itself into the realm of the learning models.

Attesting to the Tubigon shared experience in nutrition were barangay chairpersons of Cawayanan, Panggapasan Island, Matabao, Poblacion Centro and Ubojan, who told media their specific programs, implementation challenges and how they surmounted those.

These barangays each have shown outstanding performance in their services, records keeping and policies implementation, documentation, urban gardening and Ubujan sustainability of CARE as imp[lamented by Feed the Children Inc., could well be peer learning partners for LGUS seeking cost-effective programs.
