Bohol to send TARSIER 117,
trauma, relief team to Bogo
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, (PIA)—As a concerned neighbour, Bohol would be sending a search and rescue team from the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office, trauma personnel and possible psychosocial intervention teams after lunch today to help Cebu, which was hit by a 6.7 magnitude earthquake which happened 9:59 PM, September 30.
This too as Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, who called for an emergency meeting with government agencies October 1, said work and school would resume tomorrow, October 2 following minor damage reports from concerned agencies.
The earthquake, which was also felt all over Bohol, caused power outage in two of three power distribution utilities here, as news feeds and social media posts of the disaster poured in with a mighty squall that brought heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning in several areas blanketed by darkness.
Immediately, the governor, upon recommendation of the PDRRM issued suspension of work and classes pending a complete assessment of structural damages for public infrastructure that may be affected by the tremor.
During the emergency meeting at the Capitol’s Governor’s Office Conference Hall, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Bohol’s three districts assured that all roads are passable, while some bridges need to have traffic management for reduced loads, owing to a need for full technical structural assessment.
For Borja (Dauis) Bridge from Mansasa Tagbilaran, the right bridge is now opened for two way light vehicles traffic while alternate scheme would be implemented for heavy vehicles, advises DPWH I PDS chief Engr Julius Caesar Cadao.
For Castil (Dauis) Bridge from Poblacion 1, the bridge is only passable for light vehicles, he added even as the DEO is also assessing damage to Panggangan-Calape bridge and Catigbian-Sagbayan bridge.
There were few minor cracks noted in a few public schools, reports Department of Education Bohol Division Superintendent Fay Luarez, but Municipal DRM teams have pronounced these safe for occupancy.
With this, the scheduled Congressional Meets have to be continued as set, and Gov Aumentado instructed the DepEd to make sure all games are held outdoors.
All ports reported no visible damage, said Dr Damalerio, who noted that that Provincial Hospitals and the Department of Health implemented evacuation proceedings but later brought back patients to their rooms.
DOH is also on white alert, meaning keeping all their medical personnel on standby for quick deployment, anytime.
While there were no reports of waves caused by the offshore originated quake, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Bohol Officer In Chare Engr. Nolan Evangelista said a motorcycle parked near a coastline in Barangay Manga was lifted a good two meters to a new location.
The earthquake and its aftershocks, which brought back traumatic memories of the 2013 earthquake in Bohol, has helped release the building tension of the nearby faults in Bohol, making them less dangerous of a big movement anytime, Engr Evangelista added. (
With the information, Gov. Aumentado is set to order the resumption of normal work tomorrow. (PIAbohol)
