At 1.0 %, Bohol inflation
lower than PH, CVisayas

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, (PIA)—While the country’s headline inflation in October remains pegged at 1.7 percent, and Central Visayas over-all inflation in October down to 2.6 percent from 4.1 percent, Bohol earns its edge when its headline inflation dipped to 1.0 percent in October 2025 from 1.4 percent in September of the same year.

This means, Bohol’s inflation rate in October is 0.7 percent and 1.6 percentage points lower than the national and the regional figures, respectively, points out the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Bohol.

For recording feats like this, this placed Bohol fifth among the top 10 fastest growing provinces in the country for posting an 8.8 percent, in terms of Gross Domestic Product growth rates in 2024.

During the PSA monthly inflation rate data dissemination press conference held at the PSA in Galeria Luisa strip mall here, Chief Statistical Specialist Jessamyne Anne Alcazaren, pointed out that the faster year-on-year decreases in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which are among the heavily weighted spending a family commits for the month, pulled the inflation down.

Inflation rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which was recorded at 1.8 percent in September, declined to -4.0 percent in October 2025.

Meanwhile, alcoholic beverages and tobacco also contributed to the deceleration, when it showed a slower year-on-year increase with its 3.8 percent in September down to 2.0 percent in October, PSA showed.

Moreover, with a slower inflation of 0.8 percent in October from 1.0 percent a month before, transport helped pull the brakes to stall the over-all inflation rate cruise.

And despite elevated housing costs and rentals, water and electricity as well as gas and other fuels, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance as well as transport which eat a bigger share of Boholano income, CSS Alcazaren picked these three as main contributors to the headline inflation here.

This too pulled food inflation at the provincial level to -4.3 percent in October from a -2.0 percent, Alcazaren said.

PSA identified the main drivers to the slowing of the food inflation as the decrease in year-on-year inflation of fruits and nuts which is now pegged at -9.8 percent as against the 3.1 percent last month, and milk and other dairy products with eggs which showed a decelerated inflation of 0.1 percent as against the 7.2 percent last month.

Lower growth rates in the price indices of fish and other seafoods, rice, meat and other parts of slaughtered animals, vegetables and tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses as well as sugar, confectionery and desserts, helped clamp on the inflation.

As food spending in Bohol ranks high among the priorities, the main contributors to food inflation are the inflation rates in rice, fruits and nuts and corn. (PIAbohol)
LOWER INFLATION FOR THE POOR. With a year on year inflation rates of the bottom 30% income households pegged at -0.4.0% for the Philippines and 0.1% in Central Visayas, Bohol still keeps a much lower inflation rate at -3.4%, PSA data showed. (PIABohol)
