‘Pamaskong Tabo’ opens
at APC grounds Dec 3-4
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, (PIA)—Shifting in gear for the holidays, the Department of Agriculture (DA) through its Agricultural Promotions Center (APC) presents Pamaskong Tabo, of 23 DA assisted associations as exhibitors bringing in fresh farm and value added products, including rice and dairy and Christmas novelty products.
An agricultural fair which brings to the center DA-assisted associations and their processed products, native chicken and organic products, palayamanan associations and crop-diversified products, the fair would bring in affordable and healthier food options while helping farmers in marketing assistance and for them to directly connect with consumers and possible dealers, explains APC information officer Adoracion dela Cruz.
With the holiday, the tabo also brings in Christmas decors from waste materials, maguey fiber and other novelties.
Set to take the APC grounds December 3-4, the Pamaskong Tabo is different from other agri fairs which focus on themes like exclusive organic, exclusive ubi or LGUs, the tabo is basically a diversified offer by DA assisted associations, the aggie information officer added.
While the tabo is for these associations, it also offers their processed products that add value to their harvests.
From bananas to banana chips, malungay to moringa powder, and the Central Visayas Agriculture and Aquatic Research and Development Consortium (CVAARDEC) technologies and research outputs would be there.
CVAARDEC collates all the technologies, some of the relative to smart farming: mobile based rice plant disease detection, intelligent system for assessing ginger quality, cacao disease classification using transfer learning, optimized fruit detection in complex environment, technology for backyard tilapia farming, seaweeds ice cream, tilapia crackers, fresh water eel crackers, inventors and machines as well as technology fora, shares CVAARDEC Margie Avenido, during the same radio forum.
Boholanos willing to adopt these technologies, this is exactly the time because the university and the researchers are willing to let go of these to promote the technologies, as bridge to connect science and technology to farmers, she said.
Through the government’s research arm and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Boholanos are now able to come up with tilapia value adding, because tilapia as it is, ranks low among Bohol consumed fish.
Talking about tilapia processes, the research consortium speaker mentioned about tilapia ice cream, tilapia crackers, tilapia jerky and tilapia spread, technologies that are now opened for adopters.
With this DA and CVAARDEC invite everyone to find time to join in the fair activities and look up to the technologies in the two-day event. (PIABohol)
