DTI-Bohol celebrates
Consumer Welfare Month
TAGBILARAN CITY, Oct. 2 (PIA)--The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bohol Provincial Office celebrates consumer month this October with this year’s theme “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age”.
This is in partnership with the Consumer Watch-Bohol, Inc. (CWBI) and the Bohol Youth Consumer Movement (BYCM).
The month-long celebration kicked-off yesterday, October 1 with a Consumer 5k Fun Run 2017 which was simultaneous with other provinces and regions in the country.
The said activity was aimed at providing an avenue to advocate consumer rights and responsibilities while promoting health and wellness at the same time with participants from the consumer sector, students, government and private employees.
This October 5, 2017, the 5th Consumer Youth Summit will be held at JJ’s Seafood Village and is open to students from the universities and colleges in the city with resource speakers who will talk about eCommerce and Anti-phishing and anti-scam laws.
While on October 13, 2017, a Seminar on Product Standards Regulation and Conformance will also be held which aims to update local business hardware and construction companies and establishments on the latest product standards department administrative orders and importation laws and regulations.
The culminating activity for this year’s Consumer Month celebration is the Consumer Quiz Bowl which will be held on October 25, 2017 at the ICM Activity Center.
This contest is open to all secondary students from public high schools in the province wherein winners shall receive cash prizes of P 2,000.00, P 1,500.00, and P 1,000.00, respectively.

Election period for Brgy, SK polls officially starts;
nationwide checkpoints, gun ban in effect
TAGBILARAN CITY, Oct. 2 (PIA)--The election period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls scheduled this month officially started yesterday, October 1.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it’s all systems go for the commission unless President Rodrigo Duterte signs a law postponing the polls again.
Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Eliseo Labaria in a statement said pending its official postponement, preparations for the holding of the barangay and SK elections continue.
Labaria said that Comelec offices here in Bohol will be accepting certificates of candidacy (CoC) for those who will be seeking elective barangay and SK posts starting on October 5 up to October 11. While the campaign period is slated to begin on October 12 until October 21.
Labaria said that aside from the gun ban, the Comelec will also enforce all election-related prohibitions beginning today and reminded the public to be aware of the restrictions under election laws.
Restrictions under election laws includes: alteration of territory of a precinct or establishment of a new precinct; use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates, unless authorized by the Commission; coercing, threatening, intimidating or terrorizing any election official or employee in the performance of his election functions or duties; transfer or detail of officers and employees in the civil service including public school teachers; and organizing or maintaining reaction forces, strike forces or similar forces and suspension of any elective provincial, city, municipal or barangay officers.
Violations of any of the above-mentioned prohibitions are punishable by one to six years of imprisonment, disqualification to hold public office, and deprivation of the right to suffrage.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has set up checkpoints nationwide for the implementation of the Comelec’s gun ban starting October 1. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)
