Bohol gives farm equipment
For agri-senior high students

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, June 27 (PIA)—Concretizing its priorities in educating young Boholanos to be work proficient, Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto led local officials in turning over to the Department of Education, June 27, 2018, hand tractors, cultivators and shredders funded by the provincial government’s special educational fund, for pilot agriculture senior high schools across the province.

The donations from Bohol Provincial Government include 6 and tractors, 10 cultivators and 10 shredders.

Receiving the donation were Bohol School’s Division Superintendent Dr. Nimfa Bongo, Assistant School’s Division Superintendents Marina Salamanca and Casiana Caberte, School Governance Operations Division head Dr. Desiderio Deligero and Technology and Livelihood Education Supervisor Dr. Grace Mendez.

Also there were public schools district supervisors (PDSD), acting PSDS and secondary school principals of recipient schools.

Elated by the development, Bohol Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Nimfa Bongo said “we are inspired with all the equipment given to us, teachers will be motivated in teaching inside and outside the classroom.”

The turn-over which happened at the Bohol Division Office grounds came a day after the government also turned over P4 M mini restaurant and P5M mini hotel, to actually train senior high school tourism’s hospitality and wellness strands.

Claimed to be first in the country, these innovations in senior high schools, assure parents that their kids get optimum skills enough to get them a job upon graduation, or at least an above average proficiency over those students who are to learn the tricks of the trade using regular classroom instructions and theories.

“This just shows how much Bohol gives priorities to educating our students to be competitive and be ready for work, business and college education, whatever their choices are,” Dr. Bongo added.

In his turn over message, Gov. Chatto said the Provincial Government has been consistent in its priorities guided by its vision for the province.

The governor revealed that its prize in the Seal of Good Local Governance is what it used to put up a training environment for hospitality and room management, and a mini restaurant and a mini hotel room which is set up in coordination with the private sector was pursued.

The local government donation came after an Asia Foundation and Australian Embassy’s Coalition for Change partnership, allowed local project management team to pool experts and help develop the needed training to equip the teaching in senior high schools, explained Vera Gesite, project coordinator.

She said the project started about 4 years ago, over time, they decided to put up Turo Turismo for senior high schools by helping teachers without any special teaching experience to teach in tourism.

A few years back, the agriculture related subjects thread came about.

That is to assure that students taking the specialized courses, can easily cope up after graduation: land jobs, confidently proceed to college aptly trained or start off with own businesses, Gesite added.

Earlier, Boholanos have identified three main economic drivers in attaining its vision to become the country’s prime eco-tourism destination with a strong and balanced agro-industry and a reliable information communication technology.

The last two days’ donations to the governments’ schools addressed the support direly needed in the two top identified economic drivers: eco-cultural tourism support for the hotels and restaurant and farm implements for the senior high school agriculture training to bring inclusive growth here.

Chatto also urged the DepED to make sure Bohol’s vision is clear among teachers and even non-teaching personnel, so that everyone knows where we are going as they take a ride in one boat.

As to the donations, Bohol Division Office of the DepED said Alicia Technical Vocational High School and San Pascual (Ubay) National Agricultural High School gets a hand tractor, a cultivator and a shredder, them being pilot schools for Bohol agricultural senior high school.

Other recipients include Canhayopon (Dimiao) National High School, Lonoy (Jagna) Memorial High School, Mayuga (Guindlman) National High School, San Isidro (Pilar) Technical Vocational High School, Sierra Bullones TVHS, Sikatna National High School and Tambongan (Candijay) National High School gets a cultivator and shredder each.

San Jose (Inabanga) National High School gets a hand tractor and a cultivator while Cayacay (Alicia) National High School, Dusita (Sierra Bullones) High School, Mayor Pablo O Lim Memorial High School (Valencia) each get hand tractors.

With Bohol senior high school students getting their hands into the mechanical operations of the equipment, school authorities believe, if maximized, graduates would now be equipped with the right skills having had experience with the new farm mechanization technologies. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
