Alicia XC MTB trail race
in Bohol set on April 24
CORTES, Bohol, April 13 (PIA) -- This year, the Alicia Mountain Bike Trail Race is set on April 24 where endurance and mountain biking skills will be put to the test at the standard playground for cross country trails and dirt roads.
The Alicia Mountain Bike Trail Race will open for three categories: 30 years old and below, 31 to 45 years old, and 46 and above, according to Alicia Municipal Tourism Officer Godelia Lumogdang.
Now on its 4th mountain bike challenge, this year promises to be more thrilling as the race affords bikers the endurance training that previous bikers found themselves short of when they started tackling the long climbs that Cambaol and Cabatang to Del Monte posed.
With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping sports and athletic people from pursuing their group-sports preferences, the Inter Agency Task Force here has given the go signal for mountain biking as a sports exercise as this does not entail going with groups of people.
This has also caused a massive spike in mountain bike sales and road usage that the usual Bohol 360, which happens annually, is now a spectacle that can be found every weekend and even on ordinary weekdays.
Registration to this year’s first mountain bike trail challenge is set at P200 and includes a souvenir T-shirt from the organizers.
Registration deadline is on April 21.
Although the race route is still being finalized, a brief peek shows the trails of Cambaol, Cabatang, to Untaga, La Hacienda, to Sudlon, Mahayag and the Del Monte assault back to the race start which is the Municipal Plaza.
This, however, can change anytime until race day, according to Lumogdang who is still negotiating with barangays and marshals on the roads to be used for the race.
For more details, interested participants can call or text 0930-823-3330 or 0945-396-0095 or visit the Municipal Tourism Office of Alicia.
The Alicia Mountain Bike Trail Race 2021 is part of the three event extreme sports races that will happen in the town on April 24 and 25.
This as the town officials led by Mayor Victoriano Torres and Vice Mayor Marnilou Ayuban try to revive the extreme sports and tourism in the town.
Other extreme sports races during the two-day sports festival are TAPP Trail Run and Enduro Trail Challenge 2021 series. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
