Bohol town to open trail
run challenge on April 25
CORTES, Bohol, April 13 (PIA) -- A year and two months after the Alicia Ultra Trail Challenge was put on hold due to the restrictions imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19, a restart is set this year on April 25, but on a “smaller scale.”
From the 25 and 50-kilometer ultra-trail run challenge set on Feb. 23, 2020, this year, the challenge will be open to 5 and 10 kilometers.
Nevertheless, it still involves the trail runner’s useful scaling ability and the challenging terrain of The Alicia Panoramic Park (TAPP).
Set to conquer the gruelling climbs and dizzying downhill of TAPP in Brgy. Cambaol in Alicia town, the trail run would be Bohol’s first after the province closed its borders due to the pandemic.
The race course takes to assault the scenic ridges of Cambaol, where one gets to run past the rolling ridges with tall cogon grasses and treacherous rutted trails.
Although safety and health standards are set in place against COVID-19, the race only accepts 50 runner entries for the 5 kilometers and another 50 entries for the 10 kilometers, according to Alicia Municipal Tourism Officer Godelia Lumogdang.
Registration for the 5-kilometer trail race is P250 while it is P300 for the 10-kilometer race, both already cover light breakfast and a race bib, she added.
Already on its third trail event, Alicia trails in Cambaol and Cabatang are not for the fainthearted and the weak.
Although the race goes through some manageable trails, for the ordinary runner, a walking stick would be helpful in most of the climbs.
"This is a fairly short trail distance, but we assure everyone up for the competition, this is going to be equally challenging," Alicia race officials warned.
It was last month during the 2021 Mayor Dong Torres Enduro Trail Challenge that that mayor officially announced another extreme sports even in April at Bohol extreme sports playground at the TAPP.
