10 TESDA TWSP trainees
Hired before graduation
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, July 21, (PIA) –Ten fresh graduates of a newly opened technical vocational institute in Duero, Bohol landed in jobs, even before they could be formally conferred their training certificates and the National certification from the concerned national government agency.
Eastern Heights School of Excellence Incorporated (EHSEI) of Lutao, Alejawan Duero now needs 8 more of its graduate trainees to be hired in a year to get at least 65% employment rate of the graduates before they can reoffer the same FBS next year, as per Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) policies for technical vocational institutes like them.
During EHSEI’s first commencement exercises for its pioneering 25 graduates of the TESDA Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) beneficiaries and 2 regular trainees for Food and Beverage Services (FBS) for National Certification II, no less than TESDA Bohol Provincial Director Engr. Winefredo Salas hailed the school for its efforts to quickly seal the fate of ten of its graduates.
Even then, he urged the training graduates to keep what they learned and continue to accumulate skills for higher employability.
EHSEI President Consolacion Digamon Raña said the school stated its operation last January, when it attained TESDA accreditation for FBS training, which it followed up with their being also a TESDA accredited Assessment Center.
After completing their training program, they need not go anywhere for their national certification as we are already NC II accredited Assessment Center, Raña said.
Moreover, she added, anybody who wants to take the national certification for Food and Beverage Services like Hotel and Restaurant Management, Senior High School Tech Voc and Livelihood strand or those already working but needs the formal assessment, they can file it here and get the assessment from us.
Still into FBS but considering other training programs, EHSEI officials said they are focusing first on programs that serve the tourism sector, considering the wider range of opportunities for future employment.
This graduating class took the national certification last June 30 to July 2, conducted by no less than the regional FBS lead assessor and fortunately the 27 passed, a visibly elated school president shared to TESDA and the modest crowd of families and local officials during the ceremonies.
As per TVI policy, EHSEI adopted a strict 10 days of Supervised Industry Learning Program for their scholar trainees, and industry partners like Jagna Rock Resort, Cliff Haven Resort and Parklane Bohol Resort and Span in Anda was more than accommodating to our students, this greatly enhanced the training that we are grateful for the help, she said.
Now with the TESDA NC II certification in their possession, it would be a lot easier for these graduates to apply for work and potentially land in a job, which was precisely what Director Salas urged the training graduates.
Raña admitted that their training program especially for FBS is tough, considering that it is not just physical skills that is needed, it would also entail personality development and decent communication skills as the nature of the job demands direct interaction in welcoming guests, serving, taking reservations and even room service.
Because of this, we work double time to train them, not just in the core competencies but also on the basic and common competencies: communication, inter personal relationships and computer literacy, she said. (PIA-7/Bohol)
