Highlight CVs RSTW in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol April 13 (PIA) –Eight short film entries produced by students of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor get equal chances in pocketing the P10,000 cash price for the 2024 TechnoSalida: short Film Contest to be judged this week.

The films, all between three minutes or less, detailed in creative film the theme: Science, Technology and Innovation: Providing solutions, Opening Opportunities were mostly set in Visayas with English subtitles and were deemed original shots, spliced and edited to the specific storyboard and storyline.

Set as another of the many highlights when the Department of Science and Technology brings to Bohol the Regional Science and Technology Week in a four-day marathon activities that show how science, which has been always perceived as only a subject of interest among schools, is now helping the people create solutions to their everyday problems, explains Bohol DOST provincial Sciene and Technology Center Chief Vina Antopina.

The short films, already uploaded in the DOST7 Facebook page, is also judged not just for their artistic excellence, theme relevance, scientific content and cinematography, but will also be rated using 70% of the entire criteria, 20% for Facebook reactions and 10% for Facebook shares.

The submitted short films include Hulog Piso water dispensers, Software engineering, Antibiotics, Pharmacists, banana trunk as paper raw material, Change in technologies, Water purification process and Highlight.

The contest has P10K for the first prize, P7K for the Second prize, P3K for third and consolation prizes opf P1K to the next top three winning entries.

Meanwhile, the DOST’s Central Visayas RSTW in Bohol brings all DOST officals in the region as well as scientists and experts from the country for the four days of jampacked fun in science activities in three separate venues, according to Antopina.

Starting off April 17 from the Island City Mall is a press conference at 11:30 AM at the Prawn farm, the opening ceremonies at the Bohol Cultural Center start at 2:00 with the launching of STARBOOKS for Governance and STARBOOKS for Tagbilaran City’s Alternative Learning Systems.

From 12:00 to 5:00 PM, the DOST also opens up its NULab Science, Techhnology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Motion; a science classroom in a bus at the ICM parking ground.

Perfectly suited for ALS students or out of school youth (OSY) doing non-classroom instruction, access to STARBOOKS would introduce OSYs to science, technology and innovation as a portal for merging into the mainstream.

STARBOOKS or Science and Technology Academic Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks System is the DOST’s response to the need for a digital and offline library in a one-stop kiosk to encourage great and curious minds to develop new ideas---inventions and innovations; and inspire one's capacity for entrepreneurship and research for socio-economic development.

However, customized to Bohol needs, the DOST tapped the Department of Interior and Local Government for the content on the legal opinions, references and cases that can be accessed from the Municipal Local Government Operations Offices in Bohol for research on legislation and other parallel information in aid of local government legislation, Antopina explains.

After the Bohol Cultural Center Opening ceremonies, DOST’s PAG-ASA Aand PHIVOLCS opens up its Laging Handa sa Sakuna Exhibits, while at the ICM, from 4:00-7:00 PM, science and technology exhibits open at the ICM Activity Center.

From 5:3o- to 7:00 PM, also at the ICM is a Robotics Workshop for Grade 5 pupils, while in another venue, at the Metrocenter Hotel, a Networking Night with Science Technology and Innovation happens to wrap up day 1 of the 4-day event. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
