RSTW ‘Brain Zumba’ for
Seniors April 19 in BCC

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, April 13, (PIA)—When one uses the first half of his life trying to make memories and the other half, trying to remember which ones, aging gracefully can be quite a challenge.

At the risk of demetia when one loses the ability to think, remember and reason and remembering how to do certain activities pose a challenge, science and technology is now trying to get into the question why some people get it and others do not.

To this, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) presents possible solutions for those gracefully aging to fight dementia, through its Empowering Mental Well-being and its subsequent Maki-Indak: Sayaw sa malusog na Kaisipan at Katawan, fitting senior citizens who still have the moves, on April 19 Friday.

Set at the Bohol Cultural Center on Friday from 8:00 to 5:00 PM, the dance for the brain for senior citizens brings to Bohol leading practitioners in dance for mental health, according to Bohol DOST Provincial Science and technology Center chief Vina Antopina.

A Zumba of sorts, Maki-Indak uses moves that are designed to help the elderly declog the brain arteries and veins through a physical exercise fitted for their specific needs and capacities, all to happen at the Cultural Center (BCC) for good space and airconditioning.

Maki-INDAk is just one of the activities set by the DOST to mark the Regional Science and Technology Week hosted by Bohol.

Other activities include symposium on research, symposium on artificial intelligence, innovations, space exploration and nuclear science, Science simplified: Decoding Science and Technology Writing for Campus Journalists, Basic Food Safety, empowering local businesses, scaling up for the global marketplace, symposium on fiber fusion and exploring innovations in bamboo and indigenous fibers for forward design, all at the Island City mall.

Meanwhile at the Bohol Cultural center, the DOST PAG-ASA and PHIVOLCs bring out its exhibits on disaster prevention and mitigation as well as technologies in disaster warning on April 17 and 18. (PIAbohol)
