Over 4,000 Boholanos rally
for integrity and accountability

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — More than 4,000 Bohol residents peacefully gathered on Sept. 21 in a prayer rally to denounce widespread government corruption.

The multi-sectoral peace rally was organized by Bohol Initiatives for Good Governance under the banner “Lihok Bol-anon Batok Sa Korapsyon.”

Participants from churches, schools, and civil society wore white as a symbol of purity and integrity, calling for accountability amid the latest Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) scandal.

Most Rev. Alberto Uy, bishop of Tagbilaran and archbishop-designate of Cebu, said the mass action at Plaza Rizal was dedicated to the youth and underscored the need for stronger public participation in fighting corruption and pushing for reform.

“Thank you, especially to our young people. You are not only the future, you are the present. How often are you reminded of that?” Uy said.

“Importante kaayo ang inyong presensya dinhi tungod kay tanan namong gihimo, alang kaninyo (Your presence here is very important because everything we do is for you),” Uy added.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently emphasized the importance of fighting corruption, stating, “Good governance is the foundation of true progress and lasting peace. Accountability and transparency must be upheld at all levels of government to restore public trust and ensure that government serves the people faithfully.”

The bishop echoed the united call of Boholanos to end corruption, hold the corrupt accountable, and recover stolen funds.

“Because then, and only then, will justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream,” he said, quoting Amos 5:24.

He added, “And so today, we march not with hate but with hope. Not with violence but with courage. For the love of God, for the love of country, and for the sake of the poor.”

The bishop emphasized that the rally targets not individuals but the system of greed that has long enslaved Filipinos. He called for conversion among leaders, citizens, and individuals to live with integrity and righteousness.

“Let us avoid every form of graft and corruption in our lives. When the time comes to choose leaders again, be wise. Do not choose money. Choose God. Choose integrity. Choose life.” (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
Rather curse the darkness, why not light a candle? The highlight of Sunday’s mass action at Plaza Rizal in Tagbilaran City was the Prayer and Lighting Ceremony of Hope, led by Bishop of Tagbilaran and Archbishop-Designate of Cebu, Most Rev. Alberto Uy. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
