Unity Ride bikers bring
environment advocacy

TALiBON, Bohol. May 25 (PIA)--Over 150 bikers on mountainbikes, road bikes and time trial bikes took the initial half of Bohol's belting road in their annual Unity Ride, but this time, white flaglets with "I bike for the Ocean" and "I bike for the environment" wave from their bike's saddle or helmets.

In Bohol, where an ordinance directs everyone to sing Awit sa Bohol every day where there is an official event, Boholanos sing their aspirations and hopes with thwir hearts out.

Awit sa Bohol appears to be a strong statement of the Boholanos' love for the culture, traditions, history, and environmental heritage.

Having bikers openly stating they bike for the ocean or the environment is nothing new, in fact we welcome the addition to the ride this year, said Emmanuel Galab, a member of the 2019 Unity Ride organizing Committee.

The advocacy came in at the right time when bikers brave the concrete pavements at the peak of summer heat, a rather unusual heat this year, remarks a biker who pedalled with the big pack.

From the Plaza Rizal in Tagbilaran, the annual friendship and camaraderie ride would take the bikers through the Bohol Circumferential Road and 264 kilometers back to the Rizal Park where the long ride finishers would be honored with a short program.

Scheduled in the month of May, the Unity Ride, the 8th by far, is organized by TriBohol this year.

Bohol bike groups from the towns, bike organizations and individuals who are bike enthusiasts gather for two days of rides bringing in advocacies like "share the road," "bike for healthy lifestyle" and this year: biking for the Ocean in May which is the Month of the Ocean and biking for the environment, which is celebrated every June.

This year, the bike groups which registered include the Boyz Outdoor, Trail Rascals, Corella Bike Rider Alliance, Taga bukid Cyclists, Bohol Bike Kings, Sagbayan Bikers, Stay Lite.

Tri Bros Safety, Sikad Marino, Calape Bikers,
BeerBogs, Sikwate Boys, Adventure Seekers, Sikad Bohol Bikers Club, Bike Ta Bay, Kaliwat ni Dagohoy and Paseo De Loon.

The group formed two packs of 70+ riders and picked a 20-25 kilometer per hour speed. (rahc/PIA7/BOHOL)
