Tagbilaran City kicks off National
Children’s Month celebration
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, November 8 (PIA) -- In celebration of the 31st National Children’s Month (NCM) this November, the City Government of Tagbilaran officially opened the celebration with a program at the Tagbilaran City Hall Atrium on Nov. 6.
With the theme “Healthy, nourished, sheltered: Ensuring the right to life for all,” the activity started with the Day Care pupils leading the Monday flag-raising ceremony and mass recitation of the Panatang Makabata.
Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap, during the program, emphasized the value of nurturing the children.
"They are the promise of our future, and it is our duty to provide them with the best opportunities to grow, learn, and succeed. Tagbilaran City remains to be a child-friendly city, where children can freely nurture their creativity and talents," Yap said.
Activities lined up for the month-long celebration includes the distribution of educational toys to all Day Care pupils, information dissemination on the rights and responsibilities of a child on all public elementary schools in Tagbilaran City, and seminars on mental health awareness, teenage pregnancy and sex education for Grade 12 students at the Tagbilaran City Science High School and Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School.
The city government also partnered with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) for a free dental care session and distribution of dental kits to all pupils of the 35 day care centers in the city.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office will also conduct Kumustahan sessions with the pupils.
This month-long celebration aims to advocate and give Filipino children access to a healthy environment, good education, and healthcare.
Under Republic Act 10661, the month of November is declared as NCM to mark the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly on Nov. 20, 1989.
The Philippines is a signatory to the CRC, which is the first binding universal treaty solely dedicated to the protection and promotion of children’s rights. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
