Feb 8-10 mission in Jagna
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol Feb 2 (PIA) –Boholanos who are saddled with infirmities, some feeling hopelessly incapacitated by lack of money for the needed procedures, suddenly has a door opening up for them.
A surgical mission supported by the Provincial Government under Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado and Vice Governor Victor Dionisio Balite comes to Congressman Teodoro Galagar District Hospital in Jagna this February 8-10, and may cater to surgeries that these people direly need.
Presented by Cebu Doctors’ group, Sui Generis Medical Mission Team and Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation, the medical mission coordinated with the Provincial Government and the Municipal Government of Jagna, for its conduct and networking with port surgery after care facilities.
By virtue of its signing the Universal Health Care Law, the provincial government-owned hospitals are now upgraded to render these services which used to be only accessible at the tertiary or secondary health facilities in Bohol.
In fact, Bohol leads local government units in paving the way for Boholano access to universal health care, as the same law intends to.
The Jagna Surgical Mission services include thyroidectomy and endocrine surgery, head and neck surgery, breast surgery, cataract and pterygium surgery, cholecystectomy and biliary surgery, hernia and abdominal wall surgery, endo-laparoscopic surgery, hemorrhoids and anal surgery, pediatric surgery, arteriovenous fistula and vascular surgeries, lumps and bumps, minor surgeries, ultrasonography, tooth extraction and reading glasses clinic and optometry, according to the governor.
In Bohol, beside the same services offered by private hospitals and facilities, only a handful of government hospitals have the capability to conduct such procedures, considering the special medical equipment, and the presence of highly skilled specialists and support medical team to do the procedure.
These medical and surgical procedures in private hospitals can also cost a fortune, that Boholanos, who have no stable financial source often back out and simply wait for the time their ailing bodies could do no more.
The bulk of patients trying to access these services in capable government hospitals make its nearly impossible for the financially deprived emergency patients to get the into the priority list, thus the rare opening of a free surgical mission presents itself as that golden chance.
Considering this, interested patients and their families need to get to their nearest Municipal Health Centers or Rural health Units for pre screening procedures and pre listing, according to the governor. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
