DOH Sec Herbosa to get lab,
RHU physician to Trinidad
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, March 2 (PIA) –Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, through the Department of Health (DOH) brought in a package of health support to Trinidad town, during the official’s visit to the town to attend the blessing and inauguration of a bulk water treatment plant, March 1.
Herbosa, who is not just a world class surgeon, emergency physician and the secretary of the DOH, noted that with the 1 million liters of potable water a day, the DOH can already build a laboratory affixed to the Rural Health Unit.
“We will erect a laboratory, something we can hardly do without the water,” he said to the avid appreciation of the people gathered for the event.
Beyond the promised laboratory for the RHU, the official also said he would also order the support of regional support hospitals so that the laboratory can operate with its own hematology, chemistry, pathology and allied laboratory services needed in the facility.
By regional support from other hospitals, Trinidad RHU can be helped with the DOH allocating more professionals , experts, specialty surgeons to man and conduct operations in the hospitals.
Upon Dr Herbosa’s arrival in the town, Mayor Roberto Cajes, administrator Judith Cajes and local leaders toured the official to the RHU and the town’s economic enterprise in Trinidad Municipal College, to see for himself what else can be done for the town.
While the LGU has supported the building of a modern health facility, and with an increasing population of 44,035 plus about 8,000 students at the local college, getting quick medical help can hardly be had with the town lacking a rural health physician.
The issue is compounded by the lack of sufficient water in town, “which keeps the people from accessing medical attention and consultation,” bared vice Mayor Ferdinand de Erio.
I will also ask for your support to telemedicine, so that we can expand our professional services like the most hospitals now.
That same day, Trinidad Sangguniang Bayan passed Resolution 052 requesting Sec. Teodoro Herbosa for the deployment of a Rural Health Physician through the Doctors to the Barrios Program.
Located away from tertiary health care facilities, accessing medical health services is quite a challenge.
In Trinidad, most of the barangays are in challenging geographical locations and Rural Health Units.
Now in need of a Rural Health Physician, the SB lobbied for one.
In its resolution, the SB said the LGU can provide for a modest board and lodging to the deployed physician, put up appropriate counterpart funding, per diems, transportation and communication service allowances, funds and other miscellaneous expenses to enable the doctor to perform well.
And to complete the package of benefits, the health secretary commits to giving the town its physician from the Doctors to the Barrios program. (PIAbohol)
PUBLIC HEALTH SUPPORT. DOH through Secretary Teodoro Herbosa commits to build a laboratory within the Trinidad RHU, with capabilities for hematology, chemistry and pathology and for the support of regional support hospitals. He also committed to giving a physician here. (PIABohol)
