.3 % crime incidence’
decently manageable
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Jan 20 (PIA)—With nearly 1.3 million residents and another million tourists sharing in the police responsibility of service and protection, a 7,000 monthly, crime incidence boils down to .3 percent, which to Camp Dagohoy is still decently manageable.
Thus says Police Lieutenant Colonel Norman Nuez, speaking for Bohol Police Provincial Director, Police Senior Superintendent Arnel Banzon, at the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti Drug Abuse Council (PADAC).
At the meeting held at the Capitol Ceremonial Hall, Lt. Col Nuez reported that since January 1, 2024 to December 31 of the same year, total crimes in Bohol which is comprised of violation in peace and order and violation in public safety, reached 7,127, or 6.93 percent over the total crime incidence recorded in the same reckoning period last year.
This, according to the official who heads Camp Dagohoy’s Police Community Affairs and Development Unit added, is still decently manageable.
In 2023, from the first day to the last day of the year, total crimes recorded as reported in police blotters reached 6,665, that is 462 crimes lesser than 2024.
As to the police data from the crime statisticians of the Bohol Provincial Police headquarters in Camp Dagohoy, crimes involving peace and order as per police indicators reached 3,064 this year, which is 81 cases over last year’s 2,983, thus the 2.72 percent increase.
As to crimes involving public safety, Col. Nuez shared the 4,063 cases noted in 2024 as against the 3,682 in 2023; the 381 cases making up for the 10.35 percent increase.
Among the two crime indicators, police noted the 6.93 percent increase in crimes in 2024 as against 2023.
Of the crimes denting on peace and order, index crimes or, those crimes that are punishable by the revised penal code of the Philippines reached 724 cases in 2024 as against 805 cases last 2023, where it registers a 10 percent decrease.
In fact, as the police official pointed out, Camp Dagohoy tracked the 20 percent decrease in theft from 310 to 290, robbery from 97 to 58; murder from 35 to 31; homicide from 8 to 6 and rape from 135 to 100 police-focused crimes cases.
Increases in cases of physical injuries, most notably from reckless imprudence rose from 198 in 2023 to 208 in 2024 as well as motor-napping; from 20 to 29.
Of the total 723 cases of the 8 crimes which the police are giving focus, 537 have been solved, 179 cleared while 7 crimes remain unsolved.
For non-index crimes or those punishable by special laws, from 2,178 cases in 2023, it increased by 162 cases to 2,340; a notable 7.44 percent increase.
To highlight the Camp Dagohoy position, Col Nuez bared that in 2023, successful police initiated operations totaled to 1,255, while 2024 registered 29 more operations now at 1,284.
For non-police initiated operations, Nuez said from 263 in 2023, a03 more cases that resulted positively for the police happened.
This even as the police to population ratio in Bohol is still way below the standard.
There are about 1000 Boholano residents and another 1,000 tourists which ever policeman on duty has to serve and protect, every day. (rahc/PIA-7Bohol)
NOT MUCH NOISE. While the entire Bohol police force is mandated to keep watch of over 2,000 individuals: residents and transient tourists every day here all without much ado, a crime incidence of an average of .3% monthly is still decently manageable, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Norman Nuez, during the PPOC.
