By Elvira C. Bongosia

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — Interior and Local Government Sec. Juanito Victor C. Remulla praised Bohol for its outstanding performance in local governance during the province’s 171st founding anniversary on July 22.

Remulla delivered his message of solidarity and support through DILG-7 Regional Director Leocadio T. Trovela, who spoke on his behalf.

“What makes Bohol truly world-class is not just the land, but the leadership,” Remulla said.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s earlier remarks during a Cebu City event, highlighted that the success of national government programs depends largely on the effectiveness of local government units.

The President noted that without proper local implementation, communities cannot fully benefit from national initiatives.

In his video message, Remulla acknowledged six Bohol towns recognized as 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awardees and 24 barangays honored with the SGLG for Barangay awards.

The province was also named a 2024 SubayBayani Exemplar Province for its commitment to transparency and participatory governance.

The DILG chief also commended Tagbilaran City for launching Bohol’s first 911 Emergency Hotline, emphasizing its important role in strengthening the country’s emergency response and disaster preparedness systems.

“These are proof that strong local governance lives here,” he added.

Remulla concluded by urging all local government units to focus on their real goals: “Make lives better” by prioritizing public service, strengthening institutions, and pursuing excellence in governance.

The 171st Bohol Day celebration also included the Governor’s Excellence Awards, honoring over 30 outstanding Boholanos and institutions excelling in culture and arts, international relations, mass media, agriculture, sports, environment, business, and governance.

Established under Republic Act 7683, Bohol Day commemorates the founding of the province’s civil government in 1854, marking the birth of one of the country’s most culturally significant and historically vibrant provinces. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
