dips 2.06 % in ‘25
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)— Total crime incidents in Bohol this year dipped 2.06 percent as police blotters record a 136 cases less than the cases recorded sometime between January 1 to November 30 of 2024.
This as Camp Francisco Dagohoy, Bohol Provincial Police Headquarters statisticians notes 2,965 crimes that affect peace and order and 3,507 crimes that stir public safety, reports operations chief Police Major Christopher Ras, in front of the members of the joint meetings of the Provincial Peace and Order (PPOC) and Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC).
Although crimes affecting peace and order this year increased from 2,894 in 2024 to 2,965 in 2025, the 2.45 percent increase is easily covered by the 5.37 percent decrease in the public safety incidents noted throughout the first 11 months of 2025, the low-key police official cited.
The brings the total crime incidents to 6,472, which is still 136 cases lesser than 2024, Major Ras said.
As to the peace and order indicator, Camp Dagohoy officials said index crimes, which were 689 last year reduced to 469 this year for a 31.93 percent dive.
Non-index crime on the other hand surged from 2,205 last year to 2,496 cases this year, bringing the total peace and order indicator climbing up at 2.45 percent as represented by the 71 cases.
Index crimes or the serious crimes that occur frequently and have a direct impact on public safety, thus are used as key indicators of the local crime situation, includes crimes against persons in murder, homicide, physical injury, rape and crimes against property like robbery, theft, carnapping and cattle rustling, are used to measure crime rates that assess peace and order.
On the other side are non-index crimes which comprise of the violations of special laws and other offenses not classified as index crimes, like Illegal drugs (RA 9165), illegal possession of firearms (RA 10591), Violations of traffic laws, Estafa (swindling), cybercrimes (RA 10175), gambling violations, Violence Against Women and Children (RA 9262) and anti-Drunk and Drunk Driving (RA 10586).
Of the eight focused index crimes, except crimes against homicide, all else want down: Theft dipped 52.7 percent, physical injuries by 28.57 percent, robbery by 14.54 percent, rape is down by13.59 percent, motornapping and carnapping also to 32.14 percent and 100 percent effectively, the operations chief reported.
A different scenario is noted for the non-index crimes.
The first 11 months found cases in anti-gambling, comprehensive dangerous drugs and law on fire arms increasing while violation of other special laws, attempted and frustrated focused crimes, and other non index crimes also balanced things with their decrease.
In fact, as to the crime statistics, public safety indicators in damage to property, physical injuries, homicide and quasi damage to property all showed considerable decreases, the police report showed.
For this, police senior superintendent Col. Patricio Degay maintains that peace and order situation in Bohol is marked by a proactive police force working closely with the community to maintain a secure environment.
While some challenges remain, especially in monitoring non-index crimes and sustaining operational accomplishments, with the effective interventions and best practices that were developed and sustained by Bohol PPO in collaboration with the Provincial government of Bohol, LEAs and the community, peace and order situation in the province will remain peaceful and manageable, he said. KEEP THE MOMENTUM Bohol PPO promises to continue to exert efforts and implement sustained presence, increased police operations and continue conduct of Intel-Driven Operations against personalities while intensifying drives against loose firearms; operations against wanted persons; illegal gambling; and sustain coordination and collaboration with other agencies for the Barangay Drug Clearing Program, crime prevention and solution efforts, and the strengthening of intelligence community, shares Police Major Christopher Ras.
