Bohol distributes rice to 13 towns
under P196-million LGSF program

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)—The Provincial Government of Bohol is distributing 10 kilos of rice to indigent families across the province under the national government’s Rice Distribution Program.

The program is funded through the National Government’s Local Government Support Fund–Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (LGSF-FA to LGUs), with a total allocation of ₱196 million.

Distribution began May 14. As of May 21, 2026, the province had distributed 25,049 sacks of rice to beneficiaries from the marginalized and vulnerable sectors across 13 towns: Panglao, Bien Unido, Sierra Bullones, Alburquerque, Loay, Baclayon, Cortes, Maribojoc, Garcia Hernandez, Anda, Ubay, Pilar and Tagbilaran City.

Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado said beneficiaries are set to receive assistance in four distribution cycles under the program, with payouts held every two months.

“Tungod sa mga hagit ug krisis nga atong nasinati karon, daghan ang naapektuhan ilabi na sa pagsaka sa presyo sa mga pamaliton. Busa, padayon ang among paningkamot nga mapaspasan ang rice distribution nga gipondohan sa national government aron dali kining maabot sa mga benepisyaryo sa nagkalain-laing lungsod,” Aumentado said.

(Due to the challenges and crises we are currently experiencing, many have been affected, especially by the increase in the prices of groceries. Therefore, our efforts continue to accelerate the distribution of rice funded by the national government so that it can quickly reach beneficiaries in various municipalities).

Beneficiaries are drawn from indigent and vulnerable households identified by local government units in accordance with DBM-DILG Joint Circular No. 1, series of 2026, which governs the release and use of LGSF-FA funds.

Under the guidelines, the program targets households facing economic hardship or food insecurity, with beneficiary lists validated by local officials.

To extend the program’s reach, the provincial government allocated an P11-million counterpart fund, while participating local government units provided additional support for families not included in the initial beneficiary list.

Among those who received rice in Cortes on May 20 was Marcelina Hinay, 62, a widow from Barangay San Roque.

Hinay, who cares for a son with a disability, said the 10 kilos of rice would last her household about two weeks.

“Nagpasalamat ko sa atong gobyerno kay wala nagpasagad ning panahon sa kalisod,” she said.

(I thank our government for not neglecting us during this difficult time).

Distribution initiative will continue in other municipalities across Bohol in the coming days. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
