‘Sagility’ stakes Visayas’ IT

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)—The first of the many buildings that could transform the 1.2-kilometers old runway strip of the Tagbilaran City airport rises and opens its doors for Sagility’s 1,161 young professionals, who are now ready to strap on the headphones and become virtual service providers of an international company delivering (artificial intelligence) AI-led health care operations for the United States of America.

The imposing three storey building, with a total of 5,040 square meters of floor space, features state-of-the-art infrastructure, training rooms, coaching nooks, clinic, and multiple lifestyle and wellness amenities for what could be the hippest information technology-business process management hub to beat, in Tagbilaran.

Set to house Sagility, a global leader in technology and AI-led healthcare operations, the new delivery facility in the province becomes the “company’s central operational hub in the Visayas region and is set as a testament of Sagility’s rapid growth and its deep confidence in the incredible talent pool of the Visayas region,” shared Sagility’s Senior Vice President and Philippine Operations head Saju Pillai, during a presser before the facility’s ribbon cutting ceremonies.

An expansion of Sagility’s Philippine operations, Sagility Bohol would be the company’s latest addition to its healthcare delivery services hubs already set in Manila and Ilo-ilo, Executive Vice President and Chief Delivery Officer Mohit Saxena revealed.

Now with 8,000 career opportunities opened in the Philippines, Bohol’s Visayas hub would be going full with 1,500 local talents employed and operational by mid August, when the company expands its presence further here.

The new state of the art facility allows us to bring premium global health care capabilities directly from the province, drive local economic development and at the same time, deliver exceptional service to our global partners, Pillai added.

Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, in whose administration Bohol Business Park (BBP) was launched, shared his excitement with the formal opening of the first IT-BPM locator in the old Tagbilaran City Airport.

One of the flagship economic development projects of the provincial government under Aumentado, BBP seeks to transform the former airport property into a mixed-use business and innovation district that will serve as the new economic center for the province.

He said the project's primary goal is to create quality jobs in Bohol so that Boholanos will no longer need to leave the province to find employment.

During the groundbreaking of the park last May of 2024, he said the park is intended to improve the quality of life by attracting investments and generating thousands of jobs.

As Sagility opened in a building with its ground floor dedicated to commercial and retail establishment to serve its employees needs, BBP pictures a modern business district that will be an IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) offices hub, will have government service centers, convention and exhibition facilities, hotels and hospitality developments, greenbelt areas and parks with open public spaces, utility and support infrastructure, including a sewage treatment plant and infrastructure that supports the entire business park.

Partly owned by the provincial government while portions are still owned by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, the BBP as an economic enterprise is slated to generate approximately 3,000 direct jobs in its initial stages.

With the initial building standing over it, BBP is set to attract national and international investors in facilities and services to further expand Bohol’s IT-BPM and service sectors, and diversify its economy beyond tourism and agriculture.

Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer (BEDIPO) Officer in Charge Jude Bernard Guieb, at the recent Kapihan sa PIA on investments said Bohol is looking at the IT BPM, because it has shown how resilient it is, compared to tourism and agriculture.

He was also quick to add that both agriculture and tourism are still Bohol’s best economic drivers so far.

Already a host to major IT-BPM companies like Task Us, Ibex, Genpact and a host of moderate to small IT BPM companies of a few seats, Bohol hopes these can increase revenues as well as stir local economies with its support industries getting more customers.

Still high with the accolades that the Provincial Government got after hosting the first Bohol IT-BPM Forum last year, the Bohol ICT Council celebrated praise from IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) President and COO Jack Madrid, who said

“Bohol is no longer just an emerging site — it is well on its way to becoming a scalable and talent-ready IT-BPM hub.”

For governor Aumentado, he is doing this for all who call Bohol as their home.

With the development, he wished that the spirit of the Sandugo sa Bohol continue to strengthen the bonds that unite us, and inspire us to create greater opportunities for one another, and encourage us to build a future worthy of the generations yet to come.

On this, the opening of Sagility at the Bohol Business Park is already a huge step in the plan to create in it the province's premier business district, and position Bohol as a stronger destination for investment, technology, commerce, and employment under the local development agenda. (PIAbohol)
