Memory in CPG awards

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Nov 4 (PIA)—Boholanos remembered the Boholano educator, statesman, sports enthusiast, resistance leader, super achiever and renowned writer poet in President Carlos P. Garcia on his 128th birth anniversary by handing out recognitions to Boholanos who, like the late president, have without much of a flourish, excelled in their chosen fields.

President Garcia, who distinguishes himself as only Boholano president yet, is now feared to be slowly becoming only a historical annotation for the younger generation, that Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado and his administration believes citing Boholanos who have distinguished themselves in the fields that President Garcia had carved for himself. Helps perpetuate the memory of Bohol’s most illustrious son.

This year’s awardees for their significant achievements in the field of education were Schools Division Superintendents Dr. Evangel Luminarias CESO V, and City Division Superintendent Dr. Casiana Caberte CESO IV, in fitting perpetuation of President Garcia’s memory as an educator.

Himself an avid chess player and sports enthusiast, this Garcia memory is marked this year with distinguishing CPG awards Sports for track athletes Ma. Emely Balunan, Jhul Ian CaƱalita, Liznie Delfino, and April Joy Alimpayan, swimmer Travis Deandre Malnegro, Olympian weightlifter Vanessa Sarno, and boxer Airo Saldua.

And as the Boholano president married a pharmacist in Leonila Dimataga, Bohol handed out citations to this year’s medical scholars now passing as physicians: Dr. Mian Antonette Simporios, and Dr. Glenn Butron.

A recognized poet and culture advocate, this CPG memory is retold this year in Professor and historian Jose Marianito Luspo for his contributions and dedication to preserving Bohol's rich cultural heritage.

For being a topnotch lawyer and excellent student, Garcia is also remembered in James Carl Nable, Martin Aero Balaba, and Rob Jasper Batausa, who became RoboMission JHS Category champions during the World Robot Olympiad held at Brescia, Italy.

Their coaches Luciano Bargaso, Joan Bravo, and Administrative Supporters Generosa Castillo and Lolita Kibir were also recognized during the ceremony.

As a dedicated public servant having been elected District 3 representative of the Visayas, this Garcia feat, Bohol remembers with awards in public service with a posthumous citation to Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite and Lupong Tagapamayapa evaluators: NGO worker Francis Bernard Batoy, police officer Restituto Calimpusan, Lesa Garcia, Sarahlyn Palaca, and Rex Romani Tocmo.

Meanwhile runners up were Tabalong, Dauis and Haguilanan, Catigbian (4th to 6th Class).

He also added that even though President Garcia may not be around anymore, he believes that he would be proud of what Bohol has achieved over the years. (RAHC/PIA_7/Bohol)
EXCELLENCE IN GOVERNANCE. When Garcia would have his Filipino First Policy and keeping a good governance record distinguishing him from the rest, Bohol Barangay LGUS proved they too can do it with the seal of Good Local Governance, like this citation for Poblacion Candijay, which was chosen for transparent and pro-active public service. Gov’t starts selling P29/kg rice
to vulnerable sectors in Bohol
By Elvira C. Bongosia

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)–The Philippine government has started selling P29 per kilo rice in some National Irrigation Administration (NIA) offices to vulnerable sectors in the province.
On Oct. 23, NIA Region 7 launched the sale of ‘Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka (BBM) Rice @P29′ at the NIA Bohol Integrated Irrigation System (BIIS) Farmers’ Hall in Poblacion, Pilar town.

A total of 952 bags of freshly harvested and milled rice were sold at P290 per bag (10kilos/bag) to vulnerable members of the community – senior citizens, solo parents, 4Ps beneficiaries, and persons with disabilities (PWD), with a limit of one bag per person only.

One of the recipients, 78-year-old Emeliana N. Tecson from Poblacion Pilar, is thankful because the 10 kilos of rice she received is sufficient to meet their needs for two weeks.

“Lami unta og magkanunay kini (It would be nice if it could continue),” said Tecson.

Melvey Palapar, 25, a solo parent, also expressed her thanks to the government for the affordable rice.

“Daku na kini og tabang ug hiaot nga magpadayon pa (This has been a great help and I hope it continues),” said Palapar during an interview.

During the three-day Kadiwa Ng Pangulo held at the Tagbilaran City Hall from Oct. 23-25, the ‘BBM P29 per kilo rice’ was also sold to vulnerable communities.

Due to overwhelming demand, rice stocks allotted for the event were swiftly sold out on the first two days of the event.

In response, NIA has increased the supply to 300 bags for the final day of the Kadiwa Ng Pangulo in Tagbilaran City on Oct. 25.

A total of 500 bags or 5,000 kilos were sold in the entire duration of the event.

Also on Oct. 25, eight hundred bags of 10 kilos BBM rice were also sold at the NIA Capayas Office in Calanggaman, Ubay town.

The events signify the start of the harvest season and a milestone following the successful implementation of NIA’s Farming Support Services Program (Contract Farming), which provided P50,000 per hectare to farmers for seeds, fertilizers, and cash.

“NIA’s Farming Support Program of P50,000 per hectare has empowered our farmers to overcome financial barriers, enabling farmers to fully cultivate their land and improve crop yields. As a result, the program helps increase rice availability at more affordable prices for the community,” said NIA-7 regional manager Engr. Rory F. Avance during the launching of the sale of BBM Rice in Pilar town on Oct. 23. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
