Capitol leads ‘82nd Araw ng
Kagitingan’ commemoration

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol April 6 (PIA) – For the first time after a long while, Capitol spearheads the annual commemorative ceremony of the Veterans Day, this Tuesday, April 9.

Working in tandem with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), the Provincial Capitol has set commemorative activities of the 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan with the theme: “Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan nga mga Beterano: Saligan para sa Nagkakaisang Pilipino.”

A commemorative activity set to honor the bravery of the Filipino and American soldiers who fought side by side and lost their lives in the Second World War’s Fall of Bataan, the commemoration is also set for those who survived the test of patriotism and service in protecting the country and its values.

Set at 8:00 AM Tuesday at the Capitol Grounds, the commemoration would be marked by wreath laying and floral offering ceremonies with a 21 gun salute and a commemorative program keynoted by Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado.

Expected to offer wreaths are the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, National Museum of the Philippines, Department of Education’s Bohol and Tagbilaran City Divisions, City Mayor Jane Cajes-Yap, Sangguninag Panlalawigan (SP) members, Congressmen Edgar Chatto, Maria Vanessa Aumentado, Kristie Alexie Tutor, Bohol PVAO, Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, students and veterans.

The day would also be marked by a pledge of allegiance to the flag to be led by veteran Rolando H. Ferre Sr., District President of the 1st Bohol Veterans District.

In the commemoration program, members of the defense forces would also take turns in reciting the Kagitingan Prayers led by Sgt Mark Angel Regaspi for the Philippine Army, PLt Rolando Binangbang for the Philippine National Police, LtJG Romulo Balonga for the Philippine Coast Guard, retired PCol Sancho Bernales for the PNP veterans, retired Col Eduardo Malig-on for the PA reservists, JO1 Rhaid Cimene for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Fire Inspector Eulalio Gementiza for the Bureau of Fire Protection.

To give out their messages of support are Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite, SP Caiar for Culture and the Arts Committee Board Member Giselle Rae A. Villamor and League of Municipalities of the Philippines Mayor Fernando Estavilla. (rahc/PIA-7/Bohol)
