Contact tracing up for probable
COVID-19 case in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, May 22 (PIA) -- Authorities are now monitoring more individuals after a patient who was admitted in a private hospital in Tagbilaran City has been identified as a probable coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient after testing positive in a rapid test.
Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez, Bohol’s spokesperson on COVID-19 related matters, on May 20 said that they are almost done with their contact tracing efforts in relation to the probable COVID-19 case.
Lopez confirmed that the patient, a 17-year-old girl, underwent an appendectomy at the Ramiro Community Hospital (RCH) when she showed signs of viral infection through a rapid antibody test.
Nagpakita sa iyang antibody test na duna siya igM, which is an antibody na nagpakita na duna kay infection, viral infection most probably (Her antibody test showed presence of igM, which is an antibody that shows up when you have the infection,” Lopez said.
The RCH issued an official statement posted on its Facebook account on May 19 that it was able to identify, isolate, and screen a probable COVID-19 case.
Contact tracing and quarantine procedures have then been conducted.
The case and the probable COVID-19 patients’ contacts have been reported to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 7-Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (DOH-CHD 7 RESU).
Samples for confirmatory testing have also been taken and sent to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) in Cebu City.
The RCH likewise assured the public that proper disinfection was done and they have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety and care of their patients and healthcare workers.
Bohol currently has one confirmed active COVID-19 case, a repatriated overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who has been in isolation since his arrival in the province on April 27.
Lopez said the OFW was already recovering from the infection and continued to show no symptoms of the disease throughout his entire quarantine in the province.
Health authorities have again taken swab samples from the OFW for his third polymerase chain reaction test.
The samples were sent to Cebu City for testing, of which results have yet to be released.
There has been no recorded local transmission of the highly contagious disease. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)
