First solar power array installed in Bohol town
DAGOHOY, Bohol (PIA)--The province will soon harness energy from the sun via its own indigenous solar power plant as the installation of solar panels at the Dagohoy Solar Power Plant (DSPP) in Barangay San Vicente, Dagohoy town began on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
A total of 32 panels were initially installed with 665w. This is just the beginning of the target of 1,270 solar tables within 22 hectares of land in Dagohoy where it can provide 41,000 mwh of electricity every year.
The P1.2 billion DSPP will supply 27 megawatts to over 15,000 households on the island and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
Once operational, the project will boost indigenous power supply in Bohol which has been dependent on imported power supply from Leyte and Cebu.
Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado witnessed the ceremonial solar array installation led by PGEC chief executive officer and President Francisco Delfin Jr.
Aumentado thanked the PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC) for making the project possible.
“Today’s solar panel installation is a testament to PetroGreen’s dedication to fulfilling its promise to the Boholanos of providing clean and safe electricity through renewable energy,” the governor said in his message.
The governor hopes the project would be the start of a strong and fruitful relationship between PetroGreen and the community, which would bolster the economic progress envisioned in his Strategic Change Agenda on developing Bohol as a smart, resilient, and inclusive province.
“I hope that PetroGreen, as well as Rizal Green Energy Corporation, would consider investing in other renewable energy projects, as they can be assured of our positive response to such investments,” Aumentado added.
Dagohoy Mayor Germinio Relampagos also thanked PetroGreen for choosing his town to build the solar power plant, which is also a great help to the town's economy.
“Pasalamat ta sa PGEC nga kita ang napilian nila. Maka-guarantee ko nga maayo sila nga kompanya kay supportive sa community and generous gyud sila,” Relampagos said in an interview.
(We thank the PGEC that they chose us. I guarantee that they are a reliable company because they have been supportive and generous to our community).
PGEC earlier gave mobile clinics given each to the provincial government and the local government of Dagohoy, along with solar lights for the town’s barangays.
Apart from installing the first solar panels, PGEC also launched its corporate social responsibility called We Power H.E.L.P. (Health, Education, Livelihood Program) in three projects for the people of Dagohoy, the host town.
According to PGEC Assistant Vice President for Energy and CSR Yrel Ventura, they chose the Teachers Training program together with the Department of Education for teachers in public schools in Dagohoy to teach Science, Mathematics, the College Scholarship Grants to deserving students from Dagohoy at the Bohol Island State University (BISU) campuses and the Dagohoy Rattan Enhancement And Management Project (DREAM) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The PGEC president and CEO in his message discussed how the company’s renewable energy projects, such as wind energy in Aklan in Panay, helped beneficiary communities advance their livelihood.
“Our goal is not just to generate power, but our goal is to reduce poverty and generate prosperity for many Filipinos,” Delfin said.
PGEC is the renewable energy arm of Yuchengco-led PetroEnergy Resources Corp.
The DSPP project is set to be Bohol’s first large-scale solar power facility, marking a significant step towards reducing the province’s dependency on external power sources. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
