‘Barangayan’ brings services
to Eskaya IPs in Bohol town
By Elvira Bongosia

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Bohol conducted the ‘Barangayan sa Bagong Pilipinas” on Nov. 19 in Barangay Canta-ub, Sierra Bullones town.

The activity, which aims to deliver accurate, relevant, and timely information on government programs and measures to the barangay to address prevailing issues in their community, had the Eskayan Community as the first beneficiary of the program.

In partnership with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC), Association of United Development Information Officers (AUDIO) in Bohol, and the Provincial Government of Bohol, the Barangayan brought the ‘Barangay Service Caravan’ and PhilHealth Konsulta for the indigenous people (IP) community in the barangay and nearby areas.

Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) also joined the event to answer the issues raised by the IP community.

The IPs availed of medical consultations and other frontline government services, which they could hardly get owing to their distance from the nearest services facility.

Apart from this, they also received free medicines and vitamins.

“Nagpasalamat ko og daku nga gipatigayon ang maong konsulta diri sa among barangay tungod kay daghan ang natabangan ug daghan ang gihatag nga mga libreng tambal,” said Jennifer Cagas, a resident of Barangay Canta-ub.

(I am thankful that this activity was held in our barangay because many people here were able to avail of the free consultation and medicines.)

“Ilabi na sa mga katigulangan nga may mga gipangbati-bati nga sakit, nasulbad ang ilang problema nga nahatagan sila og mga tambal nga libre,” Cagas added.

(Especially for the elderly who have illnesses, they are able to benefit from the free medicines.)

Canta-ub barangay captain Conchita Sajol also thanked the government agencies involved in the Barangayan for choosing their barangay because many of them were able to avail of the medical consultations, receive medicines, and avail of other frontline government services.

A total of 240 individuals availed of the free medical services during the Barangayan.

While government agencies conducted their medical services, a parallel Barangayan Activity Public Fora was also conducted where the Eskaya Tribal Council interacted with government agencies on their issues, especially on the update of their ancestral domain claims, among others. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
