P1.5-M swine facility breaks
ground in Valencia, Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA)--A P1.5 million swine facility under the Swine Industry Recovery Project (SIRP) will soon be built in Valencia, Bohol.

The project formally kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony held January 8, 2026, at Barangay Pangi-an. The facility will have a 40-head capacity.

Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 7 livestock focal person Jessa P. Manlangit said the project will be managed by the Barangay Pangi-an Small Farmers’ Association (BaPaSFA), the project beneficiary.

Under the program, BaPaSFA will receive a complete production package consisting of a 40-head swine facility, 40 piglets, a four-month supply of feeds, and support inputs such as veterinary drugs, biologics, and livestock insurance.

Manlangit said the project will follow a repayment-in-kind scheme, where the beneficiaries will pay back by providing 40 piglets to other qualified recipients in the community once operations begin.

Under this arrangement, the cost of initial stocks is expected to be recovered within three years.

The SIRP aims to help revive the swine industry, which has been heavily affected by the African swine fever in recent years.

It also seeks to standardize hog production and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, contributing to a more stable and sustainable pork supply.

Facilitated by ATI-7, the construction of the facility marks a key step in the Department of Agriculture’s swine recovery efforts under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion.

Funded through the DA’s National Livestock Program, the project is expected to strengthen local swine production, enhance food security, and empower farmer organizations in Valencia. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
