TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — Construction of the Bonot-Bonot Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) in Barangay Rufohill, Buenavista, is progressing steadily, with major civil works ongoing as of 17 February 2026.

The National Irrigation Administration in Central Visayas (NIA-7) reported that current activities include dam embankment rectification, installation of seepage drain channels, rock toe repair, boulder hauling, and rehabilitation of access roads leading to the project site and borrow area.

The project was 53.35% complete as of Jan. 31, 2026, and is targeted for completion by April 15, 2026.

NIA-7 said that despite weather-related delays, work continues to ensure the structure’s quality and stability.

Once completed, the irrigation facility is expected to serve about 550 hectares of farmland and directly benefit around 220 farmers, or approximately 500 farming families, by improving water supply for rice production.

The Bonot-Bonot SRIP is designed as a zoned earthfill dam with a capacity of 7.361 meters. It aims to reduce farmers’ dependence on rainfall and help mitigate the effects of climate change on agriculture.

NIA-7 said the project forms part of its broader initiative to strengthen irrigation systems across Central Visayas and enhance the resilience of the region’s farming communities. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
